Highlights of Vietnam - 14 days

Only those who visit Vietnam are able to tell that this country is a hidden gem. From its breathtaking landscapes, to its friendly and warm people, Vietnam is a country that has it all. Heritage sites are all over the country and the opportunity of spending one night on a traditional Vietnamese boat, getting lost in Hanoi bustling streets or being on the Mekong market scene are part of the exciting trip and one of a kind hoidays.

Day 1:    Hanoi
 
 

Welcome to Vietnam! Upon arrival to Hanoi Noi Bai Airport your driver and guide will meet you and they will transfer you to your hotel. Check-in and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 2:    Hanoi-Duong Lam Village
 
 

After breakfast, start traveling west to Duong Lam village. Duong Lam is an agriculture area of the Northern Red River delta where all the culture and values of the ancient Vietnamese are still perfectly preserved. This is a good opportunity for you to fully experience the old Vietnam as you will walk along narrow alleyways and be surrounded by many hundred-year-old houses. More interesting, upon arrival to Mong Phu old temple, you will have chances to talk with local people, visit their ancient house and learn about their living while have your lunch served.

After lunch, you will continue your trip to Mia Pagoda. The pagoda has been constructed in 15th century, containing 287 statues of difference size. It is considered the landmark of Duong Lam village. We will continue our day visiting Ngo Quyen and Phung Hung temples, dedicated to the two national heroes of Vietnam. We will then head back to Duong Lam village and transfer back to Ha Noi.

 

Day 3:    Hanoi-Ha Long Bay (Join-in)
 
 

At 8:15am you will be picked up from your hotel to Ha Long Bay, one of the most spectacular UNESCO World Heritage Areas and the world’s largest marine limestone ‘karts’ landscape. 

After a 3.5 hour drive towards North East of Hanoi, you will arrive at Tuan Chau International Marina on the harbour of Ha Long’s biggest island. From here a boat will take you to our Halong Phoenix Cruiser. A refreshing welcome drink will be served and you can check into your cabin.

As you settle into your cabin, the boat will set sail to the center of this World Heritage site. Lunch will be served in the restaurant while you enjoy the amazing scenery.

From the marina area, our cruiser will sail by Dog Head and Swan Islands, Ba Hang Floating villages (with floating houses), Incense Burner and Thumb Islands before reaching the Luom Bo area for kayaking.

Around 3pm, we have time to gear up for one hour of kayaking around Luom Bo area (the provincial border between Quang Ninh province and Cat Ba National Park of Hai Phong).

As the sun sets over the bay, we head back to the cruise and relax. 

Dinner will be served with local seafood and then you can choose to enjoy a drink from the bar or experience squid fishing, before going to bed.

Day 4:    Ha Long Bay-Hanoi (Join-in)
 
 

After breakfast you will visit an impressive grotto of Ha Long Bay – Surprising (Sung Sot) Cave, with your guide.

When you return to the Ha Long Phoenix cruiser to begin your return journey to the harbour and experience viewing other areas and islands of Ha Long Bay, a cooking demonstration onboard will show you how to make authentic Vietnamese spring rolls. You will learn about the recipes and the techniques to create this popular Vietnamese dish.

Lunch will be served on the boat as you near the harbour.

At noon, you will get back to the marina where your shuttle bus will be waiting you to take you back to your hotel in Hanoi. You will arrive around 16:30pm/17pm to your hotel. The afternoon will be free for you to explore Hanoi on your own.

Day 5:    Hanoi-Hue
 
 

This morning after breakfast, you will be transfer to the airport for your flight to Hue.

Upon arrival, you will be taken to the hotel. Check-in and enjoy the rest of the day free at your leisure.

Day 6:     Hue (Join-in)
 
 

Have the morning free at leisure until 14pm. You will start your day with Hue Street Food Tour. Discovering the city through cyclos, you will cross over the historical bridge Trang Tien to visit Dong Ba market. Here you will be able to see a lot of the ingredients used to create Hue local food. You will also explore the daily business life of the locals.

The cycling will continue along busy streets where you will be also able to explore the daily life, ride around the royal palace and take pictures at beautiful Hue sites and listen to their stories. During the tour, we will stop at many famous street restaurants to enjoy a lot of Hue local street food. This tour lasts for 4 hours. When the tour finishes, around 18pm, you will be able to relax and discover the city on your own.

 

 

Day 7:    Hue-Da Nang-Hoi An
 
 

After breakfast, check out from your hotel and meet your guide and driver to depart to Hoi An. The trip passes through many spectacular scenarios along the National Highway 1 such as the breathtaking Hai Van Pass. The pass, which once formed the boundary between the kingdoms of Đại Việt and Champa, also forms a boundary between the climates of northern and southern Vietnam.

The Hai Van Pass is the highest and longest pass in Vietnam, with the North-South National Highway zigzagging through it for almost 20 km. Photo-stop somewhere in the Pass, and get your perfect pictures of Lang Co beach, a spectacular landscape or the peaceful fishing vicinity.

Upon arrival to Da Nang, we will visit the Museum of Cham Sculpture, opened in 1915. Then, we will explore the villages around the Marble Mountains, where very skillful artisans work on their products made of marble / granite and visitors can choose a collection of excellent stone products to buy as souvenirs.  We will later continue driving towards Hoi An.

Upon arrival to Hoi An, check-in at the hotel and enjoy the rest of the day free at your leisure.

Day 8:    Hoi An-My Son (Join-in)
 
 

At 8:30am, you will be driven to the World Heritage ‘My Son Sanctuary’. Your guide will show you the remains of the remarkable towers constructed by the Cham builders, many centuries ago. 

This sanctuary is a cluster of abandoned and partially ruined Hindu temples built between the 4th and the 14th century AD by the kings of Champa . The temples are dedicated to the worship of the god Shiva, known under various local names, the most important of which is "Bhadresvara." 

In 1937, French scholars began to restore the temples at Mỹ Sơn. In 1937 and 1938, the main temple and the smaller temples surrounding it were restored. However, many historical buildings were destroyed during the Vietnam War and this temple was damaged by the attacks.

After visiting My Son, you will head towarsd Cau Lau boat station, where you will board a motorized river boat to visit the Thanh Ha ceramics village and Kim Bong carpentry village. Then, head to Hoi An and enjoy the evening free at leisure.

 

Day 9:    Cooking Lesson (Join-in)
 
 

Your day will start at 8am with an “all you can eat” traditional Vietnamese breakfast served at The Market Restaurant.

Later, you will visit Hoi An’s colourful and bustling market where participants will learn about the uses of different fresh noodles, how to recognize and buy fresh fish, fresh and dried spices,  herbs and their uses in our recipes and medicinal purposes. Here you will learn about rice and grains and also see and taste many exotic fruits.

On your return to The Market Restaurant we will tour the many different Street Food counters, seeing live cooking demonstrations, learning how to make many different recipes with food tastings along the way: check out the bread for our banh mi or the baguettes being made in front of you and then taste the baked bread fresh from the oven; rice and water being grounded to make rice water used for noodles, rice flour crepes, dumplings and rice paper dried on bamboo and grilled used to eat with Hoi An chili sauce. Learn more about our famous dish of Cao Lau, noodles being made by hand and steamed over an open fire. We offer a choice of traditional Vietnamese teas served with homemade Hoi An cupcakes made freshly in front of you. Taste sweet treats and typical candy we usually eat during TET, Vietnam’s New Year celebration.

The cooking lesson will last about 2.5 hours - our cooking teachers will first demonstrate each dish before you prepare the same dishes yourself. 

After the lesson you will sit down and eat what you have cooked. You will receive a copy of the recipes and a Vietnamese cooking utensil to take home. 

The cooking class will finish at 13pm. You will be transferred back to your hotel where you will enjoy the rest of the day on your own.

 

Day 10:    Hoi An-Ho Chi Minh City
 
 

Today you will have the morning for yourself until you are transfer to the airport for your flight to Ho Chi Minh City.

Upon arrival to Ho Chi Minh City, you will be transfer to your hotel. Check-in and enjoy the rest of the day free at leisure.

Day 11:    Ho Chi Minh City - Cu Chi Tunnels - Cao Dai Temple (Join-in)
 
 

After breakfast, you will be picked up at your hotel and head towards Tay Ninh Province to visit the Great Cao Dai Holy Temple, a place of pilgrimage for South Vietnamese people and for those who are interested in Caodaism, a monotheistic religion, officially established in the city of Tay Ninh in 1926.

At noon we will stop for a local lunch in Tay Ninh (on your own expense)

Heading back to Ho Chi Minh City, we will make a stop at the famous Cu Chi tunnels. The tunnels are 75 km northwest of Ho Chi Minh City, an area that played an important role during Vietnam's wars for independence and reunification. More than 200 km of tunnels were built here by the Vietnamese guerrillas and are often the highlight of South Vietnam touring. You can explore the bedrooms, meeting rooms, air-raid shelters, smokeless kitchens, and experience life underground in this extraordinary tunnel complex. When the visit finishes, we will get back to Ho Chi Minh City. 

 

Day 12:    Ho Chi Minh City - My Tho - Can Tho (Join-in)
 
 

This morning, after an early breakfast, meet your guide and driver and depart from Ho Chi Minh City to My Tho. During the car trip we will pass along green rice fields that bordered the National Highway.

On arrival to My Tho, we will first visit the Ving Trang Pagoda, one of the most known Buddhist temples of the region and owner of a harmonious combination of Asian and European architectures created in the early 19th century.

After our visit to Vinh Trang Pagoda, we will take a leisurely boat ride along the river passing through stils houses, fruit plantation and a fishing village.

At noon, we will head towards Tortoise Island where we will have lunch at an orchard garden.

Continue cruising to An Khanh (Ben Tre) on a hand-rowing sampan passing through water coconut trees along the canal. We will enjoy a short cycling and we will also taste seasonal fruit & honey tea while listening to southern Vietnamese folk music, performed by the locals.

Our day will finish with the visit to a family house where we will taste coconut candy and get a deep insight of local life and farming. 

In the evening, we will continue driving to Can Tho.

Day 13:    Can Tho-Ho Chi Minh City (Join-in)
 
 

After an early breakfast we will board our local boats to visit the Cai Rang Floating Market, the most famous floating market of the Mekong Delta. Enjoy the beautiful scenery and the bustling activity of the market. We will further venture through small canals visiting a rice husking mill and a shop where rice noodles are being produced. 

Then, drive back to Ho Chi Minh City and enjoy the rest of the afternoon free at your leisure.

 

Day 14:    Ho Chi Minh City
 
 

Today you will have the day free at leisure until you are taken to the airport for your international flight/next destination.

Welcome to the start of creating your unique, personalised travel experience. Here are the typical steps involved in planning your trip with 12GO:

  • Once you have browsed our website and have some ideas about the kind of trip you want, our specialist travel consultants will help you to create the perfect itinerary to suit your needs. Your personal travel expert will help you with every detail of your trip - always ensuring at each step that your journey will be truly memorable.
  • Contact us by email and tell us which of our tours are of interest. Or let us know your ideas and preferences. Also please let us know when you want to travel, the numbers travelling and any other information you feel we might need in order to design an itinerary that matches your vision. 
  • We will call you by phone within 24 hours of receiving your email. Your personal travel consultant will answer your questions, clarify your ideas, desires and expectations.
  • Using this information your personal travel consultant will suggest a personalised, tailor-made itinerary for you - complete with recommended accommodation and activities, prices and information about the area. Once you have read your itinerary, your consultant will answer your questions and revise it until you are satisfied.
  • Once you confirm the itinerary we will ask you to pay your deposit so we can complete and confirm all bookings.
  • Your personal travel consultant will maintain ongoing contact with you and is here to answer your questions and concerns - he/she will continue to check that all arrangements are in place.
  • About two weeks before your departure you will receive your personal detailed day-to-day itinerary of your upcoming trip, as well as additional information such as cultural etiquette and other recommendations that will help you to maximise your experience.

During your trip your personal travel consultant will continue to be available to ensure that your travel experience is running smoothly and to your expectations.
