Serengeti and African Farm Getaway - 12 nights

Come and experience a true East African experience taking in the rolling plains of the Serengeti and a true African farm experience on the slopes of the Ngorongoro Crater. Go on a medicinal plant walk with a local healer and learn how the plants are used. Savour a delicious high tea and learn how coffee is grown and roasted before saving a freshly brewed cup of coffee.

Then set out in search of the prides of lions which prey on the large migrating plains game of the Serengeti. Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater and see the abundant wildlife which calls this region home.

Day 1:    Arusha (1D)

Upon your arrival at the airport you will be met by one of our representatives and driven to your accommodation. The rest of the day is yours to spend at leisure.

Day 2:    Gibbs Farm at Karatu (1B, 1L, 1D)

Today, you will drive to Karatu and the renowned Gibbs Farm on the slopes of the Ngorongoro Crater. You can choose to add an optional tour to the Tarangire National Park or head straight to Gibbs Farm.

In the afternoon, you can go on a medicinal walk through the Ngorongoro forest with the local healers who will tell you about Olemoran, Olaiyapiyap and Osinoni—just a few of over 20 medicinal plants described on the walk. This walk through the beautiful forest is also a wonderful bird-watching opportunity. Then you can savour a sumptuous high tea out in the garden or sip on a cup of coffee brewed from beans grown on the estate.

Then you can see some of the beautiful art created by local artists in residence. Or perhaps you might like to indulge in a soothing spa treatment at the Gibbs Spa. Then as the African sun descends into the valley, experience the spectacular view of the golden rays spilling over the carefully cultivated rows of coffee and the East African valley beyond while sipping on sundowners.

Day 3:    Gibbs Farm /Lake Manyara (1B, 1L, 1D)

In the morning you will be awakened by the dawn chorus of the birds and experience traditional coffee cultivation and roasting just as it has been done for generations. Enjoy the aroma and taste of a cup of wonderful organic, fresh-roasted Arabica coffee each day at the main lodge. There are a number of forest walks which can be enjoyed or you can experience the day to day life on an African Farm. We can also include a trip to the Lake Manyara National Park, which is famous for its tree climbing lions.

Day 4:    Serengeti National Reserve (1B, 1L, 1D)

This morning after breakfast you will drive to the Serengeti National Park and embark on a game drive in search of the region’s wildlife en route to the safari lodge. You will see plentiful plains game such as zebras and wildebeest.

Day 5:    Serengeti National Reserve (1B, 1L, 1D)

Today you will set out on a full day game drive in the Serengeti with a packed lunch. Of course one of the highlights of the Serengeti is seeing the Great Wildebeest Migration. Wildebeest, zebra, topi and other antelope move in their millions in search of fresh grazing and water. The migration is a natural phenomenon and it is difficult to suggest when it is at its peak. The months of April and May are probably the best months for this itinerary.

Day 6:    Serengeti National Reserve (1B, 1L, 1D)

Once more you will head out on a full day guided game drive in the Serengeti in search of predators such as prides of lions. The park is thought to be home to more lions than anywhere else on Earth with a population of around 3000.

Day 7:    Serengeti National Reserve (1B, 1L, 1D)

The Serengeti is home to the Big Five, the most prized animals from the days of big game hunting. During another full day game drive you will seek African Elephants, herds of buffalo and the highly endangered black rhino.

Day 8:    Serengeti National Reserve (1B, 1L, 1D)

You will go on another game drive allowing you the most time to see the amazing wildlife of this region. You can search for cheetahs, the fastest animals on land or the graceful Masai Giraffe.

Day 9:    Serengeti National Reserve (1B, 1L, 1D)

This will be your final day to explore the plains of the Serengeti National Park on a full day guided game drive. In the late afternoon you will sip on refreshing sundowners as the sun slowly slips below the horizon.

Day 10:    Ngorongoro Crater (1B, 1L,1D)

After breakfast you will drive to the famous Ngorongoro Crater passing through the scenic arid landscape of Tanzania. Once you arrive at the lodge you will have time to refresh yourself before enjoying a tasty dinner.

Day 11:    Ngorongoro Crater (1B, 1L,1D)

Today you will spend a full day exploring the Ngorongoro Crater. You will descend onto the crater floor and go on a game drive in search of the wildlife which lives in the crater such as wildebeest, eland, zebra and black rhino. Servals, a small cat, are quite common. For the area, the crater has a large population of lions which you can see on game drives. You can only travel through the park on a one way route to avoid traffic congestion.
