Experience the haven of wildlife that is Sabah with this 5-day package.
Try your luck at spotting Borneo Pygmy Elephants, Orang Utans, Sumatran Rhinos, Rhinoceros Hornbills or countless other wildlife in one of the island's largest protect wildlife reserves. Visit the sea turtles on their very own island conservation. Swim with tropical fishes in the blue waters of the South China Sea at the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park.
Known as 'The Land Below The Wind' by seafarers due to its location below the typhoon belt, Sabah is a treasure for nature lovers everywhere.
Your first day is free at your leisure to explore Sabah's capital of Kota Kinabalu (or, more affectionately known as 'KK').
Stroll along Gaya Street - with its chinese coffeeshops and weekend markets, this is the Chinatown of Kota Kinabalu. Explore the many colourful temples and mosques. Visit one of KK's museums or war memorials.
A visit to the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park is just a short 20-minute ride over the South China Sea from Kota Kinabalu.
A true paradise of white beaches and a stunning underwater world. Go snorkeling or diving. Bask in the sun on the sandy beaches. Check out the many water sports on offer.
At noon, savour a packed lunch on the beach, returning to Kota Kinabalu in the early evening. (B=Breakfast, L=Lunch)
After your flight lands in Sandakan, you will head to Sabah Park Jetty to catch your boat to Selingan Island. Or, better known as Turtle Island.
Selingan Turtle Island lies approximately 40-kilometres north of Sandakan, in the Sulu Sea. It is part of the Turtle Islands Marine Park and is the main nesting area for Green Turtles and Hawksbill Turtles. The Marine Park's primary objective is the conservation of these gentle creatures. Selingan Island is the only island in the marine park equipped to cater to visitors, however, the facilities and amenities are basic.
If you're lucky, you might be able to catch a turtle coming onto the sandy shores to lay her eggs. Witness the collecting of eggs from the nesting site, planting them in the hatchery and watch baby turtles scrambling to the open sea upon release on the beach. (B, L, D)
Your journey takes you back to Sandakan where you will visit the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre.
At the Centre, watch a video documentary on the rehabilitation of orphaned Orang Utans and how they are re-trained to return and survive in the wild jungles of Borneo. After the show, take a boardwalk through lowland rainforest to the feeding platform to observe the semi-wild Orang Utans that come to feeding platforms to supplement their daily nutrition.
Afterwards, continue overland to the village of Bilit, situated along the wildlife-rich banks of the Kinabatangan River.
After check-in, meet your guide for a briefing. Take an afternoon river safari cruise to look for some local wildlife. The surrounding forest is teeming with life, from wild Orang Utans to crocodiles.
In the evening, a scrumptious local dinner will be served. Rest early tonight, because tomorrow starts early. (B, L, D)
Enjoy an early start to the day by waking up to the sounds of the Borneo Gibbon and hornbills as dawn breaks.
Your wildlife cruise today starts at 0630-hours where you will hop aboard and cruise along the nearby rivers and lakes in search of wildlife and birds as they start their day with a visit to the Kinabatangan River banks. Keep a wary eye out for wild Proboscis monkeys, Orang Utans, Borneo Gibbons, Long-tailed Macaques, Pig-tailed Macaques, crocodiles, hornbills and the elusive Borneo Pygmy Elephant. Return for breakfast.
Afterwards, catch your flight from Sandakan to your onwards destination. Alternatively, you may also combine your trip with another of our packages... perhaps a trip to a beautiful tropical island? (B)
